Whether you own a gas-powered or electric golf cart, there are tasks that should routinely be completed for optimal performance. These tasks can also save you money in the long run by reducing the need for repairs or more thorough maintenance. Read on for tips – and don’t hesitate to ask the experts at Cunningham Golf & Utility Vehicles for more tips!
Tires
You may not think about golf cart tires the same way you do for your commuter vehicle, but they are just as important! Carts are driven on a variety of terrains, therefore the tires are the first safety feature for navigating all of your day-to-day drives.
It’s important to make sure the tires are properly inflated. Too much air can cause decreased traction and too little air requires more work from the engine, increasing fuel consumption. Use the owner’s manual to determine the correct inflation level.
Brakes
Obviously, brakes are an essential feature, so you should often give them a good inspection. Make sure the pivots can move freely and the springs are clean and lubricated. Utilize a brake cleaner if needed and if you notice squeaking, clean the drum, but remember that rain and moisture can cause squeaking also!
If you hear grinding, have your brakes serviced so they can be repaired or replaced.
Lights and Mirrors
Especially if your cart is street-legal, you’ll need to ensure all of your lights are working well and your mirrors are functional. You should always check your brake lights, headlights, and turn signals before driving! Replace bulbs when needed and always position your mirrors for safe driving.
